Plain-English help
Help Me Understand My Gold IRA Statement
You do not need to understand your statement before asking for help. Not knowing what your paperwork means is the most common reason people contact us — and it is completely normal.
What the Lines on Your Statement Usually Mean
No statement format is universal. Custodians, depositories and dealers all present information differently, but most documents contain the same building blocks.
- Product description
- The coin, round or bar — usually abbreviated. A product name is not a metal weight.
- Quantity
- How many individual items are held. It rarely tells you how many ounces of metal you own.
- Fineness or purity
- How much of each item's total weight is actually gold or silver.
- Fine metal content
- Quantity multiplied by the fine metal weight of each item. This is the figure valuations rely on.
- Value column
- A number without a stated method. Melt, retail, custodian-reported and liquidation values all differ.
- Fees
- Custodian, storage and administration charges, sometimes shown on a separate schedule.

What that line may describe
Automated interpretations must be verified before they are used in a Gold IRA Rescue calculation.
Plain English
Melt value: the fine metal content of an item multiplied by a current benchmark price for that metal. It ignores rarity, grading, packaging and brand, which is why it is often lower than the value shown on a dealer document.
